Pet odors, stale-cooking smells, musty stinks, and other pesky household odors can settle into your home and, like an unwanted houseguest, refuse to leave. To make matters worse, many people choose to deal with unwanted smells with air fresheners, fragranced cleaning products, or scented candles that only mask odors for a short time and do nothing to actually eliminate them. Rather than polluting your indoor air with caustic fragrance chemicals, use Vital Oxide to get rid of foul odors once and for all.
Vital Oxide is effective on even the harshest, most offensive smells (including cat urine) and works by oxidation, not by masking odors. Simply spray, fog, or wipe on full strength and let air dry to eliminate pesky household odors for good.
Here’s how to banish five of the smelliest problems in your home.
1. Trash Can Odors
Sure, your trash probably won’t ever smell like roses, but is it too much to ask that it not stink up your entire home? Trash can odors have a way of drifting from room to room. Bad-smelling garbage isn’t just an annoyance; it can also harbor harmful bacteria and attract pests. Luckily, Vital Oxide kills bacteria that can contribute to the stink in your trash can.
To freshen your trash cans, first wash them inside and out with warm, soapy water to remove grime and rinse clean. Finally, spray the cans inside and out with Vital Oxide to disinfect and eliminate odors. Let the cans air dry before putting in a new garbage bag.
To prevent rotten garbage smells from forming in the first place, aim to clean trash cans at least once a month. For lightly soiled cans, wipe down the inside, outside, and lid with a paper towel dampened with Vital Oxide to clean and remove any residue, and then spray with Vital Oxide to disinfect and deodorize.
2. Refrigerator Smells
If you’ve ever left something in the fridge too long, you’re probably familiar with how pungent things can get. And as you’ll recall, the stench can stick around inside the refrigerator for long after you’ve thrown out the offending culprit. To tackle and remove refrigerator odors, start by taking everything out of the fridge and discarding anything that is spoiled or expired.
Next, remove and wash the fridge drawers, shelves, and other removable parts with hot, soapy water. Rinse clean and set aside.
Important note: Ensure that any glass shelves or compartments come to room temperature before washing; otherwise, they may crack under the hot water.
Thoroughly wipe the inside of the empty refrigerator with paper towels dampened with Vital Oxide to clean, making sure to remove any food particles, spills, crumbs, or other debris. Remember to clean the inside of the fridge doors, the walls, and any drawers or compartments that cannot be removed. After your refrigerator and drawers, shelves, and other removable parts are clean, apply Vital Oxide full-strength by wiping with a microfiber cloth or spraying, and let sit for at least 60 seconds to sanitize and eliminate odors.
3. Dishwasher Odors
Over time, bacteria attack the little bits of food and grease that collect in your dishwasher’s filter, causing it to smell. To get rid of the musty odor, first remove all food residue and grime from the bottom of the machine, making sure to remove and scrub the filter with hot water and a few drops of your regular dishwashing detergent (check your dishwasher’s manual or the manufacturer’s website for instructions on how to remove the filter). Rinse the filter thoroughly with hot water, spray with Vital Oxide to sanitize and neutralize any lingering odors before replacing the filter back into the machine.
Next, check for any lingering debris that might be hiding within the dishwasher. Spray the dishwasher’s spray arms, walls, door, and gasket with Vital Oxide. Use a small scrub brush and microfiber cloth scrub and wipe away any food particles or residue.
Finally, fill a dishwasher-safe bowl with 1 cup of Vital Oxide and place it on the bottom of the empty dishwasher. Set the dishwasher to run on a hot water cycle. Vital Oxide will help break down any remaining food particles, grease buildup, soap scum, and any other leftover grime. Plus, it’ll neutralize any lingering odors.
4. Carpet Odors
Whether you have wall-to-wall carpeting or a few area rugs, your carpets take a beating over time. Your family and pets walk on them daily, spill on them, and have accidents. Keep in mind that carpets are porous; they’re made of fibers, with lots of nooks and crannies between the pile or weaves, which means there are plenty of spots to absorb odors. You can spot-clean carpet for stains, steam-clean it for deep cleaning and sanitization, or simply vacuum and deodorize it if it just needs freshening. Vital Oxide is your carpet-cleaning companion, no matter your needs. Vital Oxide has the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval and is safe for stain-protected carpet and fabric finishes. It can be used as a carpet pre-spray or in the tank of hot water vacuum extraction units.

5. Cat Litter Box Stink
Your cat’s litter box can also be the source of less than pleasant odors. First things first, make sure that you’re scooping it out at least once a day. About once a month, you should more thoroughly clean the litter box. Empty it, discard the old litter, and scrub it with unscented dish soap and hot water. Rinse, and spray with Vital Oxide to sanitize and deodorize. Let the litter box air dry before refilling with new litter.
